I just returned to my Florida home from a week-long deer hunting trip. While I didn't bag any deer, I did manage to discover that I was interested in antique bottles. I pulled some sodas out from under the house along with a real haul of "wine" bottles and an Old Crow. The really interesting find was a good distance away, where I found over 40identical unmarked, unlabeled bottles buried or half buried near a rotted shanty-house. If anyone could help identify or at least place a value on these latter I would be really happy.

To save space I'll just post a bunch of links.

35 brown bottles, all totally intact:

Other booty -
Jen-Sal marked in millileters (unusual for georgia?)

Sodas:

Thanks for all your help with IDing these things, I've found a new hobby! :)

Wow, the price of snuffs just plumited from $8 to $.25. Welcome to the forum Issac. You have found alot of the type of bottles that got many many diggers and collectors started. While not worth much money they are invaluable to the hobby and some first finds always find a place on shelves for a life time.[:)]

bottlediger, my dad got one. if you like Ill put a pic up later.

Woody and cap, thanks for the help.

Ok cap... pretend I didn't just show you a case of 35 of these things. I don't want to get rid of ALL of them, but I don't think my shelf would look right with a blue million snuff bottles. What are my chances of getting in the 2-5 dollar range per bottle?

Any word on the other stuff? I found the sodas on ebay; think I'll hold on to them for now, but I am interested in the Jen-Sal bottle. Also, I think I forgot to post some pictures of stuff.

EDIT: I was right.
The discoloration is good ol Georgia red clay on the inside. Clear glass, marked on the side in doses or something. Fancy 3iv near the top, tiny "duraglas" (not a typo, one s) near the bottom.

Did I mention that the snuffs were totally unmarked? I thought it was odd because I don't think I've ever seen any glass bottle of any kind without at least some kind of logo or number on the bottom. This has nothing save artifacts of the blowing process (I think they were machine-blown, seam on each side all the way into the lip)

They sell from $3 to $5 at the flea market. There should be some dots on the bottom to show the strenght of the snuff. No dots would be fine and not to strong up to 4 dots for the moist harsh stuff. The Sun Crest and Sun Rise run 3 to 5 bucks unless they have a very small or defunct town name on them.

I will see what I can Find on the Jen-Sal. What part of FL you in. I live just over the state line from Pensacola where I was born. If the wind is blowin just right I can throw a rock into FL from my place.

I'm from Leesburg, and I'm rare native of the state. :)

The Sun Crest is marked Eufala, Alabama. Well, one is. The other doesn't have a name on it and its not "embossed" as heavily. (Sorry, I dunno the right words yet. Yet.) The Sun-Rise has no town name either.

As for the snuff bottles, I keep checking and re-checking but I can't find anything. Some of them have something close to a tiny "T" on the bottom, but I can't tell if its from the glassmaking process or if its stamped.

Wow, a Floridian living in Florida. Kinda like livin in Illinois but no snow. [sm=lol.gif] You should have some good diggin going on down there.

The Eufala bottle is a good one and is worth about 10 bucks. Embossing is in the glass. What you have are ACL. {applied color lable}

This site will help you to understant whats going on a little better.

Thanks for all your help, cap. I'm sure that site will help me out a lot! When I said it wasn't embossed as heavily, I meant that the glass of the second one is literally smoother than the glass of the first. I tried taking macro shots of what I meant but they just didnt turn out. Compared to the Eufala bottle, the design on the unknown one is almost invisible, although they both bear the same patent no.

EDIT: That Jen Sal bottle is hard to google. I keep finding pictures of Jen and Sal.
