Hi. I found this bottle diving yesterday. I am not sure how old it is or if it is worth anything, but I really like it. It is approximately 6 inches tall and three inches wide at the base. On the front it says "Mount Vernon Pure Rye Whiskey" and on the back it says "Hannis Dist LC Co. Full Quart, Re-Use of Bottle Prohibited." On the bottom it says "Patented" and "1890." Is 1890 the date of manufacture?

Hi Jon,

Patent dates are raely dates of manufacture. Even if a product got into production in the same year as the patent was issued, that patent statement (I suspect for the bottle design, not the contents, for your find) would remain on the product for some years, sometimes throughout the production life of an item. If the mold seams indicate that your bottle was ABM produced, then 1890 is definitely not the date of manufacture. Closeup photos of neck and lip would help.

Regards,

Will

PS: I have a BIM version of that bottle in the minature sample size--it's one of my favorites.
