I recently dug a 28oz aqua crown out of a hillside. The seem ends below the top about 2 inches, so I believe it is before 1905. The bottle says registered and right below it is an oval with writing. Inside the oval is L. D. Clauss curved around and Allentown, Pa curved below. Capacity 28oz Bottler is in the very center of the oval. Below the oval is this bottle not to be sold. On the backside of the bottle at the very bottom is 28 oz capacit, which is very hard to make out. I am not sure is this is an error on the bottle. I would like to know when L. D. Clauss started making crown bottles, the value, and if a 28oz bottle is rare. Thank you for your time. Chris Hall

hi chris,

welcome to the forum. are you from the Lehigh Valley? i'm up in Carbon county now but grew up in catasauqua.

when a bottle has a capacity amount embossed on it, it's usually after the Food and Drug act was passed. that probably dates your bottle to the early 1900's... hard for me to give you a value, but i'm guessing under $20.00.

glad you found us. stick around. i've learned a lot about the hobby from the
folks on here...

Hello Chris,

Welcome to the Blue Pages. Please do put up some photos of your find. Good tight shots of the crown top, and base would help tell the story.

This may be post Gould Amendment.

Mr. Clauss was offering "125 gross 8-oz. Hutchinson stoppered bottles" for sale in 1912, per American Bottler.

"L. D. Clauss Allentown, PA embossed hutchinson blob 7oz clear 8+ $10.00" From.

I can almost taste his Birch Beer.
