Nope, that's not explorer, that is Chrome. Regardless, I'll stay away from that particular post.

I'm on an AT&T company computer on their LAN and they have some pretty pricey virus software as well.

Out of curiosity, I tried it using Internet Explorer and did not get that message, so maybe the malware was written for the "Chrome" browser??

You are safe opening any forum threads assuming the Forum software is clean (and I think thats a pretty good assumption).
No embbeded photos or linked photos should be a danger.
If you follow posted links in threads you definately risk attack if your machine is not reasonably protected.
