Been absent from the pages for awhile. Time to throw a few more veterinary meds out there. Here are some British vet bottles I recently purchased. The company that produced the blue one is still in business and are researching it for me. They produced this for birds and horses. According to ads I have found the horse version came in buckets or boxes and the bird version in tins. The others are Taylor's White Oil and is three sided, and Bailey Chemist & Vety Surgeon. Love the banner lettering.

Pond's Veterinary Remedy 13.5" and 9.5". The large one is one of the largest, if not the largest glass veterinary medicine. The embossing in very faint but much stronger on the smaller one. I do not believe they made any smaller than these.

Now that we are back in Louisiana I dropped by LSU vet school. It has been 25 years since my husband graduated from there. I noticed that the display area had not changed a bit. I emailed the librarian and asked if she would like something different and she jumped at the chance. At the moment I have no place to display bottles so this was perfect. Everything was unpacked, sorted and bottles chosen. I also printed up some descriptions including a write up on how bottles were made...with pictures of the young boys. Threw in some trade cards and books. While she really liked the bottles I don't think she quite shared my enthusiasm. [:)]Last week was the Open House and they have thousands of visitors. I made the trip down there (little over an hour) to see the finished project and get pictures. She says it has been a big hit with the professors and students. I hope that the visitors liked it and that it will get some more people interested in the hobby. The boy in the picture was very interested in the pictures of the boys in the glass houses. The pictures are not the best. The display cabinet is in the main hallway so you can only move back so far.

I think when I get the bottles back I may check with the local libraries and see what we can do. I do think it is good to get the word out there about a great hobby.

What a wonderful way to use an old bottle. The Day & Sons and Day, Son & Hewitt bottles are nice and get easily confused. Day, Son & Hewitt produced a large amount of products and are still in business today. Day & Son were large at one time and then seemed to hit hard times. As far as I can tell they went out of business 10-20 years ago.I am enjoying the new pages now that I am back on. Computers do not come easily to me...at least not like they do to my kids. I find the site easy to get around, easy to post, including adding photos.

Wow, Melinda, Welcome back, and this better be you contributing to the forum, and the community here in ye olde Blue Pages, once again. I was gonna say that Bailey Chemist & Vety Surgeon with the great banner / ribbon is a knockout. It's one of the coolest bottles I've seen lately. Brava on the Veterinary College display! It looks great, and I wish I was next to that young boy, having a good gander. You deserve widespread acclaim for your generosity & bottle public spirited presentation. Where's The Daily Reveille, when a hot story is just across campus? Thanks for showing us, and do, please, stick around.

Thanks Surf...that one with the banners is fun. I think that is why I like British vet meds so much. They have a great variety in their vet meds as far as the bottles go. Differing shapes, styles of embossing, colors...they are a lot of fun. It is the postage that kills me!
