Actually Apd75,
Thinking about it-Does the paint appear to be original? It might have been painted to represent 'Winnie-The-Pooh' with a jar of 'Hunny' on a copy of the book,'Winnie-The-Pooh'.Just a thought.
Well, the writing appears to say "Memory of Japan" and the red appears to be an outline of the Japanese islands against a blue and white background of Mt. Fuji. I have no idea what the strange animal on the base might be, or what it and the lamp base might be composed of. Could it be some sort of WW II post war occupation souvenir?
Are you going to come back and give some more hints? My imagination is running away with me. Came across a Japanese folklore cat called Maneki Neko, the lucky beckoning cat, usually shown with a paw raised - cute chunky shape, come in various colors - black to ward off evil. Lamp base vaguely ginger jar shape - never saw that thick a pull chain on a lamp that looks to be of late 40's-early 50's..........
Hello,
It appears to be small size because it is on a pine board with knot hole for size? I would say you pull the switch and the top produces a flame, A cigarette lighter perhaps?
Pat
mysecrets88 was right it is a lighter. I was wondering if someone was really going to get it.
my husband brought it home with a bunch of bottles that he dug up and I thought that this was pretty rare and neat. Not sure of corse what is worth, or what year it is, but neat lighter though;.
