    J&IEM Sheared-Lip Turtle Ink

Can anyone tell me what the letters stood for? Location of the maufacturer? Other? Thanks!

    Fraudulent Bottle Colors?

If a bottle *was* coated to change the color, any idea what solvent one would try to test the deception? I would guess that a transparent color coating would have to be made from a polyurethane or clear acrylic. Other possibilities? Thanks for the info! diggrrr!

    "Zapped" bottles

Hi bigkitty53, I don't know if anyone ever corrected you on this, but you've got it backwards. UV is high-frequency short-wavelength radiation. IR is low-frequency long-wavelength radiation. diggrrr!

    Fraudulent Bottle Colors?

I hope someone can shed light on this for me. Lately I've been seeing some oddly colored bottles on eBay, and I am uncertain whether the colors are natural. I know that the ultra-deep purples are almost certainly bottles with manganese glass that have been heavily "nuked" with UV. But I...

    New York Beer (maybe soda)

I really can't say. I'm not used to seeing hand-tooled crown tops at all, but that is clearly what it is. I based the bottle age on other bottles pulled from the same strata. I found several attractive blue-green (not aqua!) BIMAL olive/pickle jars (my best guess), all with fairly crude lips...

    New York Beer (maybe soda)

Looking for info on a: Clear BIM, beer/soda, with a hand-worked crown lip Circular embossing on front reads: "Registered, Ferdinand Haas, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y." Large script "FH" embossed in center of circle Embossing along front base reads: "This bottle not to be sold" I estimate the age as...

Southern NY & Northern NJ .... heck, Eastern PA or Western CT for that matter!

Greetings RobF! I, too, have been researching the history of Rockland and Orange Counties. With such a long history, there should be plenty of bottles in the ground. Unfortunately, suburban sprawl makes accessing them difficult. I have gone bottle hunting in the area five weekends now and...

Well met, Nirvine. I'm interested in your idea. What kind of sources do you have for picking spots to prospect around NYC & N-Cent PA?

Southern NY & Northern NJ .... heck, Eastern PA or Western CT for that matter!

Hi braddboi, I had to do a Google search to figure out what you meant by "southern tier", but now I know you meant 3 NY counties: Chemung, Schulyer, & Steuben. How is the digging out there? Rockland and Orange counties were well settled back to the American Revolution. I would be great...

Southern NY & Northern NJ .... heck, Eastern PA or Western CT for that matter!

I'm a longtime California diggrrr! displaced to the East Coast (Suffern, NY). There's a whole lot of history out here, so I figure there have to be some old bottles in the ground. I'm looking for a digging partner to share effort and help keep me motivated. Let's go find a glory hole!
