In 1971 "Top Bottles USA" by Art and Jewel Umberger carried the following article:
"Charles B. Gardner has selected what he considers the top ten Flasks. Mr. Gardner is, by far, the most beloved and well-known collector in the nation. Charles “Bottles” Gardner, as he laughingly refers to himself, is a rare individual who unselfishly shares his vast knowledge with everyone in the bottle field. No single collector has ever contributed more, so willingly, as Charles Gardner. He writes: “Opinions may differ as to the comparative rarity and I have so many good ones it is difficult to decide.”
