Hey guys, I found a shank like button that could be brass, with a train design on the front and the words "The Engineer" on it. The lay out is like this: *TOP* The (Train, its the engine, not the whole thing) Engineer *BOTTOM* It may be a child's button, I have no idea. The train...

    Sau'ers Extract

Hey everybody, On one of our frenzied digs in the yard, my mother managed to pull something out of the ground that she thought was a root (It was dark by then and we were using flashlights) and turns out, it was a bottle! Its missing one side, but other than that, its intact. You might...

    Cisterns?

Hey everyone, Thanks for your replies! I will be sure to get pictures posted of whatever I might find. I've gotten on top of the mound of dirt in the cistern a few times, and I did manage to find a circa 1970's broken ceramic dog. Yippee! [;)] I'd love to hear more cistern stories, if...

Bottles still filled w/ original product...

Depends on the collector. Some people see it as icky junk in their pretty bottle. Some see it as a not so common perk. The more someone likes the bottle, the more they'll be willing to spend on it.

    Cisterns?

Hello everyone! Does anyone have any information on American cisterns? I live in Mississippi on an old plantation home site, and I have a cistern in my side yard. Its sort of an oval shape, about 4 feet wide and bells out under the ground. Its brick, with plaster spread over the bricks...

    old pair of glasses (picture)

Hi Junk! I've seen many reproduction Civil War glasses that look exactly like your pair. I can't confidently give you a date, but you can put in a search for Civil War glasses in your search engine, and you'll find many glasses identical to the pair you found. If you can date the bottles...

1940s with original liquid inside, what is it?

Hold on now. Say if the bottles are from the 40's or 50's, that what, 50 + years old? It may have no monetary value, but hell, they've lasted for that long, haven't they? I dug up an 1870's bottle yesterday. I doubt it has any monetary value, maybe a dollar or two, its a simple, clear...

    Brown snuff bottles

I have a brown, sheared lip snuff bottle. The only bumps on the bottom are four little tiny raised dots, almost like little feet, and two dots on the top side, one on one side and one on the other. Does anyone have any information on these bottles? I've found literally scores of brown snuff...

    Privy smells?

We haven't found any fecal matter, just the smell. I don't think it could have been used any time recently. I have to admit, I'm puzzled. I suppose I could've mis-smelled the smell, so to speak. I'm pretty sure I hit the bottom. I dug deep enough to stand in it, and I'm about 5'5. I used...

    Privy smells?

I'm very new to privy digging, I've read up some on it, and I think I may have found at least one brick lined privy. Problem is, there are no bottles in the 'privy', or any other kind of trash. I have found a few broken pieces of glass, and a handful of nails, and one iron piece, but I can't...
