    Any help would be appreciated

You are right bottleman and thanks for the info. I dug about another 6" down and found the bottom. There were planks of wood on the bottom. I lifted up a few and the ground was really hard to dig so I stopped, still found afew though!

    First dig!

This is what I found on my first dig. Not sure if there is anything of value or even what they may have been used for (except for the obvious), just really happy that I found some bottles!! Hopefully there will be more to come. I don't know much about bottle digging or collecting, I am just a...

    Any help would be appreciated

I just dug my first privy, went down about 5.5 feet and found a wood lining around it. It is four pieces of wood and seems like it is about the size of four 2X4's (one on each wall). Didn't find anything in the privy yet and am wondering if I its a waste of time? I never dug one before and was hoping I found something. How do you know when to stop digging? I think I just about had enough of this one and am about to move on to the next. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking into it to see if there was an addition put onto the house. Thanks for your thoughts. Very true Lexdigger and thanks for the comments. I guess I'll just keep digging, what do I have to lose?

Yes your right but what about the smell? Wouldn't you think that it would have been in the middle of the yard at least alittle further away?

Has anyone ever found a privy only a few feet away from the back of a house? I'm just curious. I probed around the back of a house and it went in fairly easy in two spots, one right next to the other. I started digging and am down about 4 feet. I found some possible signs of a privy, nothing in...
