between new physical ailments and self imposed fiscal restraints i haven't been able to go out hunting or buy anything on line
i know i should still be reading and learning here but i'm too bummed out to do so
i'm hoping to feel better when the weather gets warmer and be able to go out hunting...
this bottle is listed on eBay as being from Jersey City - which i collect
that is the conclusion of the lister based on a maybe
BUT nothing on the bottle says anything about where its from
all it says is J. H. Midmer on one side and J.H.M. on the other...
I was out for a run this morning past the Jersey City Medical Center and saw they were doing some excavation. In the pit I could see some old pilings. The hospital is built on the route of the old Morris Canal (1829-1924). It was fenced off but I could see one broken bottle. Had to get in and...
I found this little bottle today and ask what might it have been used for and is it a pontil? Idea as to age? 4 inches tall and very rough. Thanks for your help
Away on short vacation. Saw this. Appears to be a pontil? What was it used for? And is it worth $25? Urgently need your advice. Leaving area Wednesday morning. Thanks
I found a Jersey City bottle in an upstate New York antique store for $8 Hutter made bottle with Hutter porcelain stopper. Shipping alone on eBay would have cost me more. Nice variation from the other C Willms bottle I have
The vast majority of my aqua blobs and hutchs are 2 1/8-2 1/4 inches wide at the base.
However I have 5 aqua bottles with broken necks - four with the same address - which are 2 3/4 - 2 7/8 wide at the base. I don’t have a scale but they are clearly much heavier as well. Finally, they appear at...
just thinking
there must be someone here who is bottle crazy enough to have reconstructed a bottle with pieces from multiple other bottles
please share (and the weirder the better)
i posted about my ebay purchase that arrived in +/-10 pieces.
i would like to try to reconstruct it (minus the really tiny shards)
not going to be perfect by any stretch i understand but i want to try
will crazy glue be ok or should i use something else?
i saw a Jersey City bottle on eBay that i had never seen before or heard of or could find thru google. An attic find, it was in beautiful condition with the Hutter porcelain stopper and everything. I watched the auction several times a day and was eventually the winner. The bottle arrived...
A short surface hunt where I’ve been hunting for months and where construction “progress” will soon cover the site forever Just a broken little slick but how can you resist these colors?
Attached are two photos of L. Steinberger bottles from Jersey City. One with horizontal writing, the other vertical. In general, was one, vertical or horizontal in general use earlier than the other or was it simply a matter of preferred appearance? Thanks
i made my first visit to Dead Horse Bay today. I doubt i will ever see so many bottles in one area. Unfortunately all of what i saw was "mid-century". But the milk glass and smalls alone would make the trip worthwhile. I am convinced that somewhere under it all there is old stuff just...
I picked up these two today. Are they inks and if not, what? One is a bit lighter in weight and color than the other and says “2 OZ” on the neck. The other, slightly heavier and darker says “77” or “LL” on the bottom. Any info would be greatly appreciated
The beach in Jersey City on New York Bay is closed 7 months a year to protect migratory birds. It finally reopened yesterday October 1st and I got to today. Almost all of what I find there is with broken pieces or modern beer bottles but I do find shells, bone and iridescent coal. Today it was...
My primary collecting is Jersey City bottles. Mostly embossed water/soda/beer. A couple of blocks from where I live was a funeral home on site for more than 100 years. Before that there was a beverage company: Chas. Harris. I’ve been searching there for months trying to beat construction. I...
