I apreciate the advice. I thought that one looked authentic.
I may put together a group of black glass bottles from ebay. It would be easier and probably less expensive than finding them myself but I don't think I could buy one that I liked better than this one I found myself [8D]...
A couple of newbie question here. Here is a black glass bottle that is on ebay I was considering bidding on. Is there anyway in general to help tell if the black glass bottles are authentic? The selling prices generally seem pretty low considering the age of black glass bottles but how can...
Swiz,
I agree, it's still cool. Sure wish I could find something on the history of Cherokee Medicine.
Thanks,
David
Lobey,
I've thought about restoring this one and several others we've found that will make a grown man cry. I've been lurking on the "cleaning & repair" board, this one...
Here's the best heart breaker we've found so far. Aqua, applied lip, BIM, 2-5/8" square x 8-3/4" tall. Embossed "THE CHEROKEE MEDICINE CO. GALVESTON." Only problem is the lip being deeply chipped on both sides. If I ever restore a bottle this will be the first candidate. I like it well...
That's a neat item, Charlie. I think you might be right about it being a watch FOB, definitely some type of pendant. Good deal on picking that one up. Looks like that pine-tar-honey was a pretty well advertised product, I bet it tasted bad enough to kill any cough.
Probably a lot less...
We found this Dr. Bell's Pine-Tar-Honey - E.E.Sutherland Medicine Company, Paducah, Ky. bottle during one of our creeking episodes. It's 7" tall and 2-1/2" wide, aqua and embossed "E.E.Sutherland Medicine Company, Paducah, Ky" on the face "Dr. Bell's" on one side and "Pine-Tar-Honey" on the...
Diginit - Thanks for the info on the ages. Even more proud of the creek bottle to know it's pre-1885. I agree the amber is an ABM bottle. I did a search here like you suggested and was amazed at the amount of info already discussed on this site. I had to figure out how to spell "Hostetter's"...
Sorry for posting so many pictures. but I really am hoping someone can tell me something about these.
I just started bottle collecting this summer.
Thanks,
David
Texas Arrowheads
There is a lot of difference in the engraving. Not shown is the "18 FLUID OZ." in a circular pattern on the back of the OK bottle. Nothing is engraved on the back of our creek bottle.
I just left our creek bottle soaking in Vinegar to try to remove the calcium looking stain that you can see...
We recently found the older of these two DR. J.HOSTTER'S STOMACH BITTERS bottles here in a South Texas creek near an old Plantation site. We acquired the other dug bottle from Oklahoma. It's obviously not as old as the one we found in the creek. I tried to take some pictures to show the...
Hi Kelly,
Glad my website has proven helpful for you.
I've already noticed how addicting this bottle hunting deal can get! I live near the coast in what was the southern end of Austin's colony. There where there were lot's of old plantation sites and other pre-civil war developments in this...
I recently found this blue bottle in a creek while we were arrowhead hunting. It's just a hair over 3" tall x 1-1/4" square. It has two embossed sides and two slick sides. There is a "7" stamped on the bottom. It has seams on the neck and I believe it is an ABM bottle.
While I've just...
