I've seen quite a few of these for different cites Taylor, most are from the 1890's and after ,(but there are earlier reports also), when it was discovered or at least came into general belief that infection was caused by bacteria. These reports are packed with great information, sometimes you can find when sewers were installed in some cites.

Good stuff Taylor, such information is quite interesting to read but not particularly useful in my experience. Perhaps I am ignorant of something important, lol. Browsing various older digitized city comptroller reports I've found written references to the locations of old local dumps (or what were effectively landfills/grading projects initiated prior to development), including the number of wagonloads of ash or of garbage (the good stuff) dumped in the areas each year. I didn't calculate it all out but it seemed as if there was 1 wagonload of garbage/refuse for every 25-30 wagons of ash/clinker, at least in the 1910-1915 time-frame. Focusing one's attention on the locations which weren't purely ash dumps is simplified a great deal with the information, and following the yearly reports lets ya know how long the spots were in use. I made a chart of the most promising sites, but I have no immediate need for it now that I have a good dump on standby which predates most of the local records I saw. [

If you like that kind of stuff read "Digger ODells book "Privy facts and little known secrets" I love that book. You really get a feel what is was like living in filth in the 19th century. []
