It is not a known insulator style and I am positive, in my own mind, that it is not an insulator. It looks more like a juicer but I can't explain its function if that is what it actually is. Jim
Bear & Jim, I have to agree. But in the context of the other insulators , I found in a 2 day period , it appeared to be one, in the pile I found! After all the caked and packed mud came out, revealing no treads, I realized something was amiss! Possibly the caboose operator was making lemonade for the rest of the crew. In a few days, I'll have some insulators ready to post, I purchased in 1988 , researching them now. I just remembered where I stored them! [attachment=10-28-15 009a.JPG]
Hmmm, those ones look very interesting. Is the glass stained in a few? I never meant to get into insulators, but we can blame Jim for my getting into them. [8D]
CreekWalker i collect ashtrays for some reason 100+ all pre 60's? The closest i can think of is a candle holder two ways. I know i have seen single holders withe the same 3 ears. Is there any base ware i guess u could call it on ither side. An old Caboose would have been lit by a candle just another one of my guesses!
Jason
Jason, you may be correct , those ears are the correct width! Bear, they aren't stained. I bought these from the widow of a RR employer or ee from New York state, who had settled down south to be near their daughter and grand children. She had several straight side Cokes, one a quart with proprietors name in slug plate, I sold that quart in 2001 for $150, and purchased some other awesome looking bottles ,which I stored with this set. I spent pretty big for the bottles, and she owed me ten dollars , asking if I wanted the insulators for the difference. At the time , I had found dozens RR insulators, worth no more than 50 cents each, which I sold to a flea market vendor by the five gallon bucket full. So I nearly passed on them, but the colors were unlike the aqua and clear Hemingrays I found, and so carried them home completely broke, but happy. So from left to right, CD 155, 164 corn flower blue, 164 7-Up or apple green?, 162 in a blue, I haven't figured out yet, and a CD 203.2 (I wish!) no, 203 in citrine. I will have some clear photos soon.
