I stopped by a old Abandoned house. Been driving by it for years, wanting to probe back yard for a Privy. Then this Spring it looked like people started working on it. Not sure what they are doing but put it up on stilts & building like a 10 foot wall under it all around outer edge of house foundation. Bizarre, never seen anything like it before.I can only guess maybe theey are putting a basement under house, over 100 years after house was built. It did have a crawl space all these years. Anyways, there was a small concrete bunker under one corner of house, this housed the Electrical box's for power to the house. BUT, Now I see the workers knoocked out part of this concrete wall. Upon my arrival Friday after work I see a old Voights Beer Bottle laying there in dirt just before I entered crawspace, I go hmmm wonder where that came from? Then I notice old beer bottle broken in the concrete wall. Pics below. LEON. P1070313.jpgP1070314.jpgP1070315.jpg

After seeing the whole unbroken amber beer bottle partially incased in this Concrete Wall I wondered if I could some how get Hammer & Chisel & Chisel it out of there intact?

BUT, I have no Hammer & Chisel handy, What to do now? I see a old broken handled gardening tool under house, a hoe or spade. Even though handle broken it still has like 2 feet of handle on it but best of all a nice metal end on it. I figure this will have to do. I start slowly chipping away at Concrete around bottle, But being concrete it's not easy being so hard so I gotta really pound away on it hard but at the same time not smack the bottle & break it, not easy as bottle is anywhere from 1/8 inch to a inch away from where I'm pounding this metal hoe/spade. SUCCESS, After about 20 minutes of careful gentle beating & pounding around bottle I set it free from it's Concrete Encrusted tomb of over 100 years.P1070322.jpgP1070325.jpgP1070326.jpg

Ends up it's just a Common Pfeiffer Brewing co bottle from around 1910 give or take 5 years. I assume these got thrown in this wall when the house was built, I thought the house looked older like 1890's, maybe it's to new to even have a Privy? LEONP1070323.jpgP1070324.jpgP1070328.jpg

A big kudos for all that hard work, Leon! I wonder what else is entombed in all that concrete? A portable X-ray machine would come in handy right now...

All that hard work for a common $1.00 bottle. This one is kinda sentimental, more then the 50 other ones I've dug. I did see somebody post one of these on ebay as rare for $225 opening bid. I'd sell them all 50 of mine for less then that. The fun is the supense, wondering what it could be. The pfeiffer Brewing company still stands on Mack Ave. in Detroit only a couple of blocks away from this house wheere I found this one. LEON.

Leon, I love your perseverence chipping that out. I've found old cans in walls but never bottles encased in cement walls. Maybe there's more to find over there?
