Hi everyone, I got this bottle from the yard sale, a man who gets tons of antique things from who knows where. I am completely new to bottles. This is a very interesting bottle and looks to me like a three mold. The writing on this bottle looks to me to be glue maybe as one of the letters ‘S’ appears to be coming off. Is this a way that bottles were marked? From the research I have done it looks to me this bottle is from 1850 to 1870s. Any thoughts? Any information? Would this be of any value?

Look through the mouth of the bottle towards light. You should be able to see slight depressions on the inner wall of the bottle behind at least a few of the letters if it is actually embossed. At first glance, I'm afraid it does look like a homemade fantasy bottle. I can't tell for sure, but it does look like it was blown in a 3-part mold, which would definitely rule out it actually being embossed in those areas.

Fake for sure. Someone applied those letters with epoxy to an old slick bottle.

I've seen this done before: applying fake embossing. I'm now wondering if they all stem from the same source originally. Some sort of souvenir piece or something.

There are some of these (I believe mostly Western saloon flasks) where the lettering is cast on with epoxy or something similar. Those have fooled some experts. This one wouldn't fool a collector...

I have the same thoughts! ☹️ Did a ton or research on it and never found anything about Dr Brown carrot bitters. Thanks a ton for the info!

I have another couple bottles I’m a bit stumped on as well. This Pen-Mar bottle has the actual address from Norfolk. Appears to be the original label. No pontil mark but seems to have a mark maybe from the clamp device. 2 part mold On the bottle but mold line doesn’t go thru the lip. Any thoughts on it’s value? Is it possible this is the way some people “embossed” their bottles before we started doing actual embossing as we know today?

The Pen-Mar bottle is probably machine-made but would need a photo of the whole bottle and a photo of the base to determine. Looks just Pre-Prohibition to me. Very little worth due to the condition of the label...maybe $5. With respect to the other bottle, no. That epoxy is definitely modern.
