Gene and I dug two pits this past weekend. Saturday's pit was a 7-foot rectangular stone liner, which turned out to be the newest pit to the house. It dated 1910 to 1930, and contained some nice bottles for the era, including some early crown top sodas from Lewistown.
Sunday's pit was a 5-foot wood liner, 1890 to 1910. Both of the pits we dug this weekend had very loaded trash layers. The 1890s pit had some nice PA medicines, a Dundee Marmalade crock, a very nice but plain emerald green panel medicine, a Lewistown beer and a dozen marbles. There were also seven Hood's Sarsaparillas, they must have liked the stuff! Here are a few pics from the 1890-1910 pit. There are two more pits there which should be older ones that we will dig this coming weekend. ~Jim
