Socket wood chisel from the 1833 cabin site of Texas pioneers John and Margret Hallett, founders of Hallettsville, Texas. John Hallett is described as to have been a craftsman. Here is excerpt from the 1951 Hallett book.
“John Hallett spent his leisuretime hunting, fishing, and often times would fashion furniture such as chairs, cots and tables from the hard oak material grown in that vicinity. He took special care in making for his faithful wife a two-wheel cart In which she could ride in comfort over the open range”
- Finkelstein, Hope & Dave. The Story of John and Margaret Hallett, American Pioneers and Founders of Hallettsville, (1951)
Front and back of chisel.
Hollow head would have been fitted with wood.
