When I saw the pictures, I could tell is was "fake"... And a buyer question confirmed it.

"Q: Hello, This is not an antique bottle from 1890. It is an over sized replica made in the 80s. You are missing the cork for the top and it is definitely not worth what you are asking for it. I just bought one for $50 on eBay. It probably isn't even worth that much but to me it is for the memory. My parents had gotten one at a souvenir shop when I was a kid and I broke it so I have been looking for a replacement. I was there when they bought the first one so I am positive that it is not from the 1890s.
A: Thank you for your concern, interest and forthrightness. However, I found this bottle some 40 years agoon the property of an abandoned boarded up roadside inn while walking my dog. This was on the Eastend of Long Island, New York where I lived for my entire life. I have already turned down offers of over $375.00 from antique dealers from that area before I moved to Virginia. It was explained to me that bottles of this size were used more for commercial use for businesses such as restaurants, hotels, etc. Again the authenticity was further conveyed to me by the waves in the glass, which is typical of the hand blown method and is almost impossible to replicate with any modern glass bottle manufacture method. But again I appreciate your concern and interest. Thank you."

Typical "head in the clouds" seller response too!

I sent him this note...

Your bottle is a Repro just like the first person said...here are the links to all the others either on e-bay now, or recently sold.

Here are some Bottle Forum threads about your bottle too...

Your bottle was made in the 1970's and the date of 1890 is there in honor of the year because of The Meat Inspection Act of 1890 established USDA inspectors to enforce sanitary standards in the meat and dairy industries. Tuberculin testing of all dairy cows, to prevent the spread of tuberculosis, began in 1890. Please list it corrrectly !!

If you can tell us it's from a no later than 70's dump that would be cool too! No late throws either. The one mentioned is commemorative for sure. It was the year the TB testing started if I remember correctly.[8|][8|]
