Below is the sellers response to the message I sent him telling him it wasn't nearly as valuable or as old as he claimed.

Thank you so much for your concern and input. However I stand behind my belief that this is a true antique. If I may I would like to share with you my reasoning. A few detractors, yourself included, claim that this was made as some type of commerative issue, celebrating some act by the FDA. I am not sure if you, yourself subscribe to this theory but two of your colleagues do, and that is what disturbs me. I have been told that this has no value (or at least what I am asking for), and yet as prominent a repoduction that this item supposed to be, I have only seen three of them as made available by your contemparies.

Secondly, The specific manufacture of this item requires more than substantial investment in tooling and machinery. I wonder who would make such an investment just to commerate a government decision that at the end of the day no one had an interest, especially in the 1970's. Perhaps even more importantly, most reproduction entities either buy outright or negotiate some sort of royalty fee for the use of the emblem in question.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, where is the mention of such company and additionally, what business entity would invest the sum(s) of money required to develop the molds for the machinery required to if it were only a commerative item.

Regardless of all of the above possible situations it is still a fact that this particular style of bottle was manufactured from dated methods and machinery. For all of the nay sayers out there, I ask one simple question. Show to me one manufacturer that can prove that they made this product as you describe.

As the antique dealers that I used to be friends with used to say to me "you cannot fake the real deal"

From the description:
There is a concentric seam that runs just under the bottom ridge of the Mouth of the bottle.
This is consistent with a machine made bottle, correct? If not, then I guess every milk bottle I have is actually hand blown.

There ya go... He learned from antique dealers. He's right, guys, antique dealers are incredibly honest: of course you can't fake an antique.
