Normally I wouldn't post something like this from ebay, but considering it is a "Buy It Now / Make Offer" item and still available, I don't see any harm.

The unique thing about it is, 1917 Coca Cola ads featuring a picture of a contour/hobbleskirt bottle are hard to come by. Most ads from 1917 feature the straight-sided bottles. And for those who might not be familar with this particular bottle, it may interest you to know that even though they have "BOTTLE PAT'D. NOV. 16, 1915" embossed on the main label, they actually were not released/issued until sometime in 1917. It took that long for the Coca Cola Company ~ ROOT GLASS ~ and a couple of other glass factories to get their act together and gear up properly to actually start producing and distributing the 1915s. So to find a 1917 ad picturing this particular bottle is unique in my opinion. In fact, I believe I have only seen one other ad from 1917 showing the hobbleskirt, and that ad was not for sale like this one is.

The "Buy It Now" price is $24.95 (Free shipping) and has one declined offer. It's hard to say what price the seller will accept, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone could get it for $15.00. The reason I don't buy it myself is because I am cutting back on purchases these days due to my intent to retire and travel in about two years. If anything, I plan to eventually sell off some of my collection instead of keep adding to it until I get so old that I can no longer see to enjoy it.

Anyhoo, this might be a good item for someone to consider buying because it's something you just don't find everyday. Here's the link and basic seller description ...

Here's a picture of the only 1915/1917 Hobbleskirt I have - made by ROOT GLASS - Bottled in Scranton. PA. (Near Mint Condition).

Here's an ad I had on file and was originally posted by member Morbious_Fod. Morb said the ad was dated April 12, 1917 and might be a first to introduce the new Hobbleskirt's ...

I would suggest asking the seller to send you a pic of the other side of the ad, it may have the actual magazine name and or date it came from, then search Ebay for a copy of that same magazine issue on the cheap. I've done this plenty of times searching for specific Paterson articles and ads...

Jim ~

I thought of doing that very thing but suspect the seller thought of it too and may be why he didn't mention the magazine already. Whenever I am in an antique shop (and have the time because it can be exhausting) I will thumb through as many pre 1920s magazines I can find in the hope of finding some early and cool soda ads. But because my time lately is usually limited, I rarely do that anymore because it takes so much time. Years ago I did that and wound up buying about 150 National Geographic magazines, every one of which had a different Coca Cola ad on the back. I got so tired of packing around the four or five boxes they were in that one day I removed the back covers and threw the rest of the magazine away. I paid $20.00 for all 150 magazines and ended up some years later selling just the Coca Cola ads for $100. Now I wish I still had them.

Here's a link I think everyone will enjoy regarding Coca Cola and National Geographic ...

Okey, dokey, I just asked him ... but I'll bet you a root beer he will come up with a reason not to tell me. Of course, if you take the bet and win, you'll have to come to California to collect! (Lol) [sm=thumbup.gif]

I heard from the seller and his reply is copy/pasted below. He also attached a picture of the flip-side of the same page which I tried to save but couldn't, and didn't reveal much anyway.

Sorry, friend, but I don't keep the parent magazines after removing the Ads. Also, since this was the back cover page of the magazine, it has no page number, date, or magazine title on it. It was more than likely from an issue of either "THE AMERICAN" or "AMERICAN LEGION" magazines. Another shopper has asked me to see the backside of the page, so I thought you might want to see it as well. Thanks for your interest.

I can assure you it wasn't the "American Legion Magazine"...
