It seems hard for me to find exacts concerning these bottles as I struggle to find any 7up books pertaining to information about ACL changes during this time period. Alot of the members have been very helpful in this regard and I do appreciate that. So what I have decided to do is list the information I have learned from my 7up collection. Please understand these are just posted as generalizations I have noted from my personal collection. There will always be variations and overlaps. I hope this helps new collectors build a general timeline on the ACL changes from 1954-1979 on the 7oz bottles.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

In my collection 1953 was the last year of the swimmer girl. Starting in 1954 and continuing to 1963 bottles contained a white neck acl and a red front acl.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

In 1964 the neck acl was changed to a redesigned red logo with the bottom logo remaining the same. In my collection, this was only used one year.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

1965 brought about a change as the words 7 FLUID OUNCES were added directly below the neck logo. This style was used 1965-1968

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Then in 1968, the 7 FLUID OUNCES was moved from under the neck logo to to it's new location bottom front, directly below the main 7up YOU LIKE IT-IT LIKES YOU main acl. In my collection this design was only used in 1968.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

1969 brought a totally revised bottle with a vertical 7up acl with a red dot. A new neck acl and the words 7 FLUID OUNCES once again bottom front under the main acl. First year I noted identical fronts and backs. This version was used from 1969-1970

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The last variation I found began in 1971. Everything was the same as the 69-70 bottles except that the words RETURN FOR DEPOSIT were added directly below the top neck logo. As far as I can tell this variation was used from 1971-1979 when the 7 ounce bottles were discontinued. I personally have bottles to 1977. I am currently looking for 1978 and 1979. I have been told by 7up collectors on our forum they have seen Canadian 7 ouncers to 1979. I'm assuming they also made them in the US. A fact I'm not thoroughly sure of. #Note# I did find one bottle in my collection that was 1971 and didn't have RETURN FOR DEPOSIT on it. (1 out of 6 bottles)

Comments and corrections are always welcome as it is my goal to be as factual as possible. Thanks!

Thank you so very much for posting this information. My 7up collection is mostly restricted to pre-1954 and because of that I'm unfamiliar with the changes you have outlined up to 1979. Very interesting. Rick in BC

Great research! What is the latest one you've seen that lists a city on the back? I have a 1965. I am putting together a list of cities that I've found on 7up bottles. So far I have a little over 300 including Canadian ones. I will try to post it in this forum, but I'm not quite sure how.

Attached is a 1968 variation that must have been considered for the new logo. I passed on one the first time I saw it because I didn't know what it was, but luckily was able to get this one. It is the only Armstrong 7up bottle that I have in my collection.

I have one 1953 bottle that is is the non swimmer style. I don't have any swimmer bottles that are later than 1953.

Wow, thanks for all your comments, I looked through all my bottles on display and I believe I did find a 66 bottle with a city on the back. I'll post some pictures. I had trouble taking a picture of the date, but I believe it's a 1966. I looked at in good light with a magnifying glass for quite a while.

Great find on that 68 Armstrong, I would love to have one like that! Now I'm heading to my attic to check all 60's bottles for cities! And a 53 non-swimmer!

I checked my garage stash that I haven't inventoried yet and found a 1967 from Jefferson City, MO. So far it is only Liberty Glass from Missouri that had named bottles after 1965.
