Yesterday I walked into a local antique mall that I try and visit at least once a week and found the "Sweet" acl shown below. I only paid $5.00 for it, which is kind of weird because the dealer also had an everyday 7up bottle that he was asking $7.00 for. Don't you just love it when antique dealers don't know the difference between a rare and a common bottle? I do!

Anyway ... I got to inspecting my Sweet bottle, and asked it ... "Hey little guy, where are you from? I've never seen one like you before." Would you believe it actually talked back to me and said ... "I'm from Portage, Wisconsin, and I'm quite rare. You should buy me and take me home." So that's exactly what I did, and was happy to discover when I got home that my acl book list it as Very Rare. Which, according to the author who signed and gave me the book, said VR bottles typically start at about $50.00 and go up from there. I am not certain mine is worth that much, but it's in absolute mint condition and might be. ??? (Following this page will be two more. One with a back label photo, and one with a little information on the town of Portage, Wisconsin).

"How Sweet It Is!" < Can you tell me who used to say this?

Portage, Wisconsin is located in the south-central part of the state, with a current population of about 10,000. It is located on the Wisconsin river that eventually empties into the Mississippi River to the west. Portage has it's roots from the fur trading days back in the 1780s/90s when rustic forts were built there. It became incorporated in 1854. I'm not sure if a population of 10,000 is considered small, but the photo below of it's downtown section sure suggest it.

P.S. Please note the S&S on the label. Does anyone happen to know what it stands for?

Thanks,

SPBOB
