So, this story begins a few months ago when I had stopped at my dads store before heading out metal detecting. One of this coworkers overheard me and said that he has an old shop in back of his property that we could metal detect around. Now, on any other day, I would have taken him up on this. But on this day I was headed to a mill built in 1858 (extremely old for around here). he also said that we could look around inside, because he has all kinds of BOTTLES laying around in there. Well that got my attention, but I still went to the mill. then, today, my dad comes home with a box of bottles that guy brought in for me to take. apparently there are a ton in there and he wants to get rid of them. In the box was a 1930s blank milk, a screw-top drug bottle, a 1920s J. R. Watkins extract bottle half full and with half a label, and this bad boy. Made between 1875 and 1888, it is embossed DOCTOR GREGORY'S/ SCOTCH BITTERS. It is 5/6ths full, and after a rinse is sparkling mint. The rinse revealed tons and tons of bubbles and crudity in the glass. it also has a nice applied top that is just crude enough to be obvious. Ring- Ham lists it as Extremely Rare. And the best part? It's from Minneapolis! I now have an extremely rare semi local bitters in mint condition. This is one I will keep until I die (or until someone will trade a Rochester squat or gravitator for it [:D]). well sorry that this is so long, but I am really excited. Happy Graduation to all you Class of 2014ers out there! I graduate tonight!
