Dug this jug with my son on saturday, it was in about 20 pieces. I glued it up yesterday - thought it was worth saving. It's still missing a large portion in the back, and I'm hoping to find more pieces of it this weekend. My son dug some great jewelry pieces and a few bottles. Overall a great day digging with my son!

The jug reads "Guaranteed by A&S under the Pure Food / and Drug Act June 30, 1903 / Serial Number 5982 / HIGHLY CONCENTRATED COMPOUND / ARABIAN COFFEE FLAVOR / 1/10 OF 1% BENZOATE OF SODA / ABELSEN & SCOTT, MANUFACTURERS, PROVIDENCE, R.I.

Anyone familiar with this jug or the company? I can't find any info on the company. I'm guessing the jug is 1920's - 30's?

Nice little Paul Jones whiskey. I know the quart Paul Jones whiskey's are pretty common, but not sure about the nippers - anyone know? My girlfriend dug this on sunday along with 5 more intaglios - we have about 30 now. Thanks for looking.

thought it was worth saving
Dollar wise, probably not. Time with the boy and memories, priceless.
Go back and sift for some more.

"A&S under the Pure Food / and Drug Act June 30, 1903" Wrong date for that but I doubt it matters.

Hey Richard,

Nice reconstruction, sir. Here's a variant in a group:
790648.jpg
"Lot 867
Nine Pieces of Assorted Stoneware, two glazed crocks, a small jar, and six jugs, including F.B. Norton, Worcester, F. Woodworth, Burlington, Vt., and Abelsen & Scott Arabian Coffee concentrate.
Estimate $150-200

Small chips as expected given usage.
Sold for $150" From.

They apparently also had Lingon Preserves. Though those dudes in Fargo objected to the Benzoate of Soda, even in small quantities.

Wow, you guys are good!

Buster, I don't know how you got a hold of that directory, but thanks - looks like about the time frame I was thinking.

Surfaceone, very cool to see another similar jug. I love the old advertising on these jugs - that's the only reason I saved it. I know there isn't much value in a busted up jug like this, but it was too cool to not save.

Thanks all for the comments and the research - you guys are good!

You're welcome Richard. Sometimes I get lucky on google. It kept trying to give me Abelson instead of Abelsen. I kept changing the word combinations and hit on a match. Now the next question is , What the heck is Soda Fountain Essesence of Coffee?
