We took another trip to Coal town to dig with Privydigger on Saturday. The plan was to hit a 1850s house in town. That plan changed when I saw a plaque on the house “Circa 1899†Turns out; the house next to it was also built in the 90’s. The rest of the row is 1850s. My guess there was a fire around that time, and they re built. Bob said the houses are all on the 1870s map. The old pit is there somewhere, but Bob decided to dig at another location where he probed another pit, that just happened to be under a 3 inch thick concrete sidewalk. Badger went with Bob to get a sledge hammer, its good to see we are always prepared. [:D] In the mean time I used a big rock to bust half of the sidewalk up. Now I’m paying for it.
Every thing looked good, it probed well, but it turned out to be a “trash trench†not a privy. I have never heard this term. Turns out they used to dig long 4 foot deep trenches on the property and toss in trash. This one just happened to be right under the whole sidewalk, the probed buried up to 6 feet, sideways! We didn’t feel like doing any mining, even though we were in coal town, plus my head light batteries were dead.
We didn’t get a whole lot, but we did get some coal town hutches and med's, towns that I have never dug, that’s always a good thing. Plus it was fun as hell and that’s what it’s all about! Sooner or later we will hit a good one in Coal town. Thanks for the invite Privydigger (Bob).

Rick, as you know, don't give up on the 1890s homes. I'm sure there were houses there long before that if the rest of the row is older!
