Any idea what this bottle is? Cologne, after shave, ink...?

I've never seen a cold cream that wasn't in widemouth jar form where the lid screwed off so you could get to the very last bit of the product...

Ok. So I opened the bottle and smelled the inside to see if I could detect after shave or any odor. This made me immediately dizzy and gave me a headache. It's been about an hour and I'm feeling much better. Anyway, here's a picture of the inside. I won't be opening it again!

Eric, here's another picture of the outside that shows the color better. This is why I'm not sure if it's milk glass. It's slightly blue.

Either smelling salts or Bat knock-out gas.

I guess I better stop sniffing antique bottles. Lol! I thought maybe I was sensitive to the mold spores. It really scared me!

I'd say maybe "ether" (not either [:)]) was in the formula for ink. Also, a blue tint in milk glass is quite common.
Try spraying it again and reopen it. Then clean it first and use some steel wool to clean the metal. Also hit it again after you clean it and work the latch and hinge first. Maybe do it outside though.

It looks like an old desktop mucilage/glue pot. Dug one that shape and also in milk glass from a 20s dump, though the top was rusted. The bottom was embossed "Carters" so it had to hold something like ink or glue. I'm not sure what the nature of the "smell" was, but perhaps your piece was last used to hold rubber cement, and you caught a whiff of some nasty solvents?
