I got this from the widow of a older gentleman who was a collector who passed and she took his collection to a local show. this is a hand grenade type or some might call a keg fire grenade from Spain but I just don't know and have not been able to find anything about it or the company's history....it is a light lime green and right at 7 1/2" tall and what looks like a crudely tooled top, the embossing on it is CARBO HERs Y Ca BARCELONA with the s and a of HERs and Ca being smaller capitalized letters with underscores. Just not sure of any info or value. There was a smaller grenade with multiple sides from the same embossing but another guy had latched on to it and ended up buying it. Would have loved to have gotten that one too but no such luck. Thanks for looking and hopefully there is a fire grenade expert out there that knows about these. HH Ace

Hey Lorne,

What size is that guy? Are you sure it's a fire grenade?

My Spanish is pretty non-existant, and online translators aren't giving me much help.

"Carbo" in Latin is charcoal. What it means in Spanish, I've not been able to determine.

One was listed in a NZ auction a while back, appears to a food type Barrel. The translators don't do much good with figuring out what it was. No bids on the lot. Still a very interesting barrel.

Fire Grenades are smaller and much more fragile that what you have.

looks like a mustard (or maybe some type of BBQ sauce with that embossing). Grenades have very thin glass.

Well duh! Forest for the trees huh?!?It makes sense now that you guys mention it that the glass might be too thick although the reason I went in this direction was the widow and a bottle collecting friend of hers and her husband who was helping her mentioned they thought that is what it was. There was also a multi-sided one which I thought was from the same company and it resembled more of what you think would be your typical fire grenade. but I did not get a real close look at it and it could have made of thicker glass and been just another food container as well?

Also I found a couple of mentions of fire keg or "hand" grenades that looked like this size with the handle or long neck which I thought because of its size might have been made for a more commercial use instead of for home use.

the thickness does give me pause and i feel you guys are probably right. Matt, although with the longer neck if it is a food even though it is a barrel I would think not the right type of bottle for mustard? Possible a sauce like you suggest or a pepper, capers or something like that. the top does remind me of a Mellins but with a smaller opening.Anyway now with that possibility I may actually find something out about it? I knew I would get some good info on here!

Surface maybe it is a chemical bottle of another sort since the translation of "carbo" is charcoal, maybe an early form of lighter fluid? That would make alot more sense as if that were the case then this would be a true "fire" grenade!!LOL

Thanks Top, Surface Matt! Happy Turkey Day guys!!!HH Ace

Zumwalts food bottle book shows a similar French bottle. Not sure what it contained. Maybe olives since they sold a lot of olive oil.

Matt,

If this was a food bottle of some sort which I am leaning towards heavily now then I definately agree that it was probably a pickle, pepper or capers or something along that lines. i think your on the right track. just wish I could find more info on it. Thanks for the input! HH Ace
