3" dia.x 1-3/4" tall, heavy clear glass with small bubbles, two pieces, top and bottom connected by lead. I thought it was vault light, but its not prismatic underneath like other examples I have seen. found under basement of commercial building in NYC.

it is heavy, like an insulator, the ridges are just that, ridges, not threads. the only metal part of it is the pressed lead band that apparently holds the disk like top piece of glass to the lower ridged cup shaped piece.

Looks like a battery rest, a type of insulator that large batteries sat on.

Berger Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1886 by John and Wilson Berger, and was known for producing alloy steel, sheet metal products like roofing and ceilings, and sidewalk lanterns. The company continued to expand their offerings into the 19th century, and was eventually subsumed as a manufacturing division of Republic Steel in 1930. The company is known today as Republic Storage Systems, and is still based in Canton.here are some sites to check out. I will post them in the insulators page as well. they prolly know all about these. thanks for looking.http://glassian.org/ http://glassian.org/Prism/index.html

You know, that was my first thought, but it seemed thinner than the ones I had seen around these parts, and then the lead band made me discount that idea altogether. Glad you found out something about it. Taught me something!
