I found this bottle this past weekend at a flea market. I've searched and searched and find nothing. At first
I thought soda or beer, but now I'm thinking mag citrate maybe ? It was with a bunch of New Jersey druggist bottles. In script on the front is Belford Kates / Millville / New Jersey. Fancy scroll above and below. On the back is This bottle / registered / must be returned. Nothing on the bottom. Any info would be appreciated. Mitch

I'm guessing beer. Looks like a classic 1910-1920 beer bottle. Belford Kates was a liveryman in Millville from the 1880's-early 1900's. He was born in 1868 and in 1920 was a deliverer for US Mail. I would guess he tried his hand at bottling sometime in the 1910's. Doesn't look like he lasted long in that endeavor.

I think it was a good find. Any bottle where you can't find any example sold on the internet is probably a local rarity.

I have seen a reference to a "Kales" bottle too. Here's a close up of it. Notice the top of the "T". That's why I called it Kates. Not much info on either. Thanks for the replies ! Mitch

Millville was a glass town , and it may be that he got a deal on the mold and bottled cheep beer or birch beer and had a to small distribution area. It's a real nice bottle by the way.
