I found an old bottle book at a garage sale titled "It's A Corker" by Art & Jewel Umberger, copyright 1968. That is the year I dug my first non-machine made bottle, a Bromoseltzer.
I was looking through the book to see how bottle prices have changed in 40 years and to my surprise about 90% haven't changed a bit. I'll give some examples from the Medicine Section.
Ayers Cherry Pectoral $2 - 4.
Barrrys Tricopherous $3 - 5.
Caldwells Syrup Pepsin $3 - 5.
California Fig Syrup $3 - 5.
Hicks Capudine $2 - 4.
Fletchers Castoria $1 - 2.
Chamberlains Cough Remedy $2 - 4.
Fellows Syrup $5 - 7.
Gombaults Caustic Balsam $3 - 5.
Groves Chill Tonic $2 - 4.
Herbine $2 - 4.
Laxol $7 - 10.
Maltine $3 - 5.
Mexican Mustang $2 - 5.
Mothers Friend $3 - 5.
Parkers Hair Balsam $3 - 5.
Lydia Pinkham $2 - 5.
Pisos Cure $2 - 5.
Scotts Emulsion $2 - 4.
Sloans Liniment $2 - 4.
Frederick Stearns $7 - 12.
Mrs Winslows $3 - 5.
Peter Fahrney $3 - 5.
Jaynes Vermifuge $2 - 4.
Kilmers Swamp Root 7" $3 - 5.
Kings Discovery $3 - 5.
McLeans Volcanic Liniment $3 - 7.
Miles Nervine $3 - 5.
Pierce Discovery $3 - 5.
Pitchers Castoria $2 - 4.

The book only has 16 Bitters bottles listed. Some of those are
Atwoods $3 - 5.
Browns Iron $25 - 35.
Electric $15 - 25.
Fish $75 - 100.
Harters $25 - 35.
Hostetters $7 - 15.
Lashs $20 - 30.
Prickley Ash $30 - 40.

Just thought that was interesting that most of my collection isn't worth any more now than when I started collecting 40 years ago. Just goes to show it's better to buy one rare bottle than 100 common ones.

Lots more funny stuff...

I agree with you Jay buying one better bottle is always the way to go. If you bought 3 bottles a year at about $400 each over the next 30 years with the odd splurge here and there for something really special you would assemble a very nice collection that anyone would be proud of. I know there are quite a few other things I waste $100 a month on.

If you want to invest in something and realize a profit over time , dont buy bottles.
There are lots of things you can buy that will appreciate much better than bottles.
Buy bottles because you like them.

All depends upon whether or not you are buying the right bottles:)

Some of the better CT flasks I bought in the mid 90s have quadrupled in value. Can't say the same about my paper investments!
