Nice bottle Jerry,

So how many different British pontils do you have now?

Chris

Thanks Chris. I'm happy with it. It's one where the aqua bottle is much more attractive / crude than the flint glass version.

I guess I've got about 20 top shelf medicines in VGC or better, that would be difficult to replace. Plus a lot more of the common types (and some rarities that are just plain boring, or ugly to look at, and will never be top shelf bottles for that reason. There are plenty that fall into that category! Rarity and attractiveness / interest do not always go together). Some non-medicines too, for a bit of variety. Early perfumers bottles and food bottles are under rated here these days.

Jerry,

I know what you mean.. I have my share of top shelf local examples.. But I also collect the more mundane local pontiled druggists and soda bottles. To me even these less attractive looking bottles are a very important part of local history. So I'm always seeking out examples I don't have. I also have many boxes of shards of local bottles with quite a few no known intact examples. To me these shards are a very important part of my collection as a record of what once existed.

Bump!

Not a bottle pic this time, but an early medicine go-with picked up from ebay a few weeks ago: A late 18th / early 19th century advertising token for 'Sir Samuel Hannays Original, Genuine and Only Infallible Preventive of a Certain Disease' (no prizes for guessing what the 'certain disease' was). It was quite a well known product in its time - it was known as 'Hannay's Wash'.

It who shall not be named[;)] I'm guessing its for treating rhino bites. They apparently never saw a live rhino?

deepbluedigger,
Greetings. I forgot about this thread and came upon it while looking for information on British pontil meds. Seek and you will find! I opened up an 1850's privy the other day and found one I have never dug before. At this time I will assume it is British and it certainly appears to be a late throw into the privy. It has the apperance of the Essence of Peppermint / Kings patent square flared lip bottles, clear metal and a glass tipped pontil. embossing is "Hiltons/Imperial/Essence of/Peppermint" Any info you have would be appreciated. Maybe it is common and I need to get out to more shows!

Thanks, Roy

Apologies for the slow reply JPC: I've only just seen your post.

The Hiltons is a new one for me. A rare bottle for sure. Would really appreciate some photos!

I have this Guerlain Eau Lustrale. I believe it is either UK or French.
