Got in a quick hunt today before the sun went down and found this large blob-top bottle under the mud. It is a scarce Bruckner Bros. bottle from around 1892-1894 when John and Henery Bruckner had just taken over from the well established business of Stephen Garland (who had been operating since at least 1875).

The front of the bottle reads: "Bruckner Bros. Successors To Stephen Garland 668-670 E. 161st St. N.Y."
The reverse reads: "Trade Mark - Registered - This bottle not to be sold. This bottle must be returned when empty."

I think this may be the earliest variant of Bruckner Bros. bottle.

Following the success of his and his brother's buisness, Henry Bruckner became a politician - serving as an Assemblyman in 1901, Congressman from 1913-1917, and was the Bronx Borough President from 1918-1933.

The Bruckner Expressway and Bruckner Boulevard are named in his honor.

Great find!! I've found some of the U-NO-US bottles from Bruckner Beverages Inc., very cool to see their earlier products.
