Matt,

The Hilleman's is 8.5-9" tall. I've seen it in person and it's a beauty. I got the picture of the bottle from a photo of a display of cures from the collections of Carl Sturm and John Wolfe at the 2003 National show in Louisville. John said that there is a clear version also. I would guess it would sell for over a $1000 these days.

Scroll down about 1/3 of the page here: http://www.antiquebottles.com/southeast/jul03.html

and look at the closeups to see some super rare cures. I've only got a few of the ones shown.

Mike - thanks for the info. on the Chapin's cures. It seems strange that the Cough cure is a vet medicine. Is it for coughs in horses/cattle?

Mark

Some of the best up in there for sure... i've been hunting the cobalt Adams Sanatorium from Mexico, Mo for a long time. I knew Carl had one, and I heard he has two variations with different embossings. Awesome

Cough cures in horses are pretty common. Usually they are for a variety of respiratory diseases called such names as: cough, cold, distemper, epizootic, pinkeye, and heaves. From the veterinary standpoint it is hard to tell if a cough cure or a colic cure is for humans or animals. the Chapin's booklet clearly states his was a veterinary medicine.

I am also working on a checklist of all known veterinary pontiled medicines. I just got back from photographing and documenting the largest collection I know about. that collection had about a dozen. Hope to get serious about that in January and get help from the bottle community.

As for the Hillerman's, I have never seen it. I know one collector who specializes in poultry medicines. I'll contact him and see if its in his collection.
As for the $1000 price tag. It would probably go to a cure collector over a veterinary collector. Most veterinary collectors are looking for colorful and graphic labels and packaging. Only a very few are interested in early glass for that kind of money.

Sorry to take this one off topic, but this display really caught my eye. Love it even more to know it was all dug in Louisville, Kentucky!

I don't ask for much personally. Just that old green bottle under the C in CURES.

I really like that display. The pottery reminds me of my floor after digging a good early pit.
