UP FOR AUCTION IS A COLLECTABLE EXCELLENT CONDITIONED GLAZED 10 INCH BREWERY BOTTLE

THE STAMPED WRITING ON THE BOTTLE READS AND THIS CAN BE SEEN CLEARLY ON THE PICTURES BELOW:

BROWN JUG BREWERY
CHELTENHAM

AT THE BASE THE BOTTLE HAS 'POWELL' STAMPED

THE BOTTLE IS UNSCRATCHED AND HAS A TINY TINY CHIP RIGHT AT THE BASE

THE BOTTLE WEIGHS 1KG

The bottle is a stone porter from around 1840-80 produced by Powell of Bristol, who perfected their glaze in 1835. Can’t trace the Brown Jug Brewery Cheltenham. Porter bottles are not easy to come by but their appeal is restricted to specialist and local collectors.

The bottle went for £675.00 on ebay. Amazing charity shop find.

That's a wonderful thing, I guess?
I wonder though after reading this from the missionfish site.

I'll have to do the math now but it sounds like giving works takes more than gives.

Maybe my math is wrong but it looks like missionfish is taking about 45£. I think ebay/paypal still takes their cut from the full amount. Say 81£. 126£ out of 168£ in fees.
Way to give ebay!
Nice effort colinp1967 though, I'm sure the Cancer UK charity appreciates it. It's too bad that ebay doesn't. What a scam if I'm right (not on your part Colin).
I think I'll do direct donations though.
