Cheap crock

Got this 10 gal. for $10.00. Brought it home and found out the markings are for McCoy. What was this used for? No handles and no inside lip for lid. 17 1/2" h x 15 1/2" w.

I use them... still... to make pickles, sourkraut, etc.
