That isnt chinese and it isnt new.
The Crownford China Co. made decorative reproductions in the 1960s-1970s. They were made in Italy and sold through New York.

The only thing that bothers me is that the seller lists it as an original artifact (as far as I can tell). Maybe they themselves are not aware that it is a repro. The bottle looks nice for the most part. If you don't know anything about glass manufacture, you might just bid on it because it has neat pictures, some old advertising claims, embossing . . . The bottom shows that it is modern but your average knick knack collector might not know that.

Thanks for clearing that up GuntherHess and for the example Lobeycat.

Interesting how the mind works. When I read the embossing on the bottom and saw China, I stopped reading and didn't notice the Co after it, I just assumed it was a product of China.

This is the first I've seen of this company in 25+ years of collecting.

Hey Matt,
The Dr. J's sounds like it could be hard to tell it from antique glass. How did you figure that one out?

some of them are pretty convincing... at least from a distance. I have seen them sell pretty high on fleabay. I never thought they looked right and no history in older collections. Took me a while to track them down.

The original Uncle Sam bottle can be had for $20 or less. It is Bakers Specific and if from North Berwick Maine.
