Just thought you might like to see some bottles I dug from an unconventional location. All of these were dug in hut sites used by the Union Army during the winter of 1862-63 in Stafford County, Virginia. Despite the regulations against hard alcohol consumption in the army camps, it is obvious from the bottle finds that the soldiers found a way to get what they were not supposed to have. Best wishes and good luck digging !!

The men are long gone who drank from them, as are the men who forbade them to drink from them.. ..and yet the bottles remain.. I just love old bottles! [:)]

Very nice display. I guess "prohibition" wasn't any more effective in the 1860s than it was in the 1920s [;)]. ~Jim

Great stuff! Welcome to this site and thank you for sharing. Any way to get a close up of the cathedral peppersauce, second row, third bottle from the right?
