In the month of November I pick wild cranberries in the area where i grew up. I found this bottle/ coal ash dump on the edge of a 60' cliff. I went back yesterday hoping to find a few very scarce ginger beer and soda's from this town. All I found old was the bottom of a TOC wine bottle and a broken Probation bottle, the rest was to fresh. I suspect, due to erosion, all the oldbottles have gone into the Great Atlantic ocean. Due to the strong winds i only stayed an hour. [attachment=IMG_3185.JPG] winds i only stayed an hour. Dangerous looking spot! But it's hard to tell just how steep. At the bottom of the slope, near the water it looks like there is a flatter area (first pic, on the left side of frame). Maybe there could be more whole bottles that rolled down to that point and stopped. Also, the "v" shaped channel must hold some stuff. Of course if those ideas don't work out, you could try getting in the water. I would think there could be some unbroken items along the shore.

Have you dug a test hole to see how deep the coal ash/ trash layer goes? In looking at the pics. , it appears it could be a few feet deep. There may be older layers underneath. It appears that they pushed the trash right over the edge of the cliff into the ocean below. Just a thought. Buster

Wow, what a cool dump! I'd definitely walk along the shore at low tide, looking for coins, marbles, and other smalls. I'm sure there are some secrets to the dump that it has yet to give up. Maybe swimming around in the area would reveal your rare locals if the older parts have indeed all washed into the ocean?

still a neat spot to find a dump but doubt there is anything really old there or if it is likely broken . I find dumps like that have potential then get old fast

A dangerous spot indeed!! It is so steep that I had to rake the ash up to the top of the bank. Anything loose just rolls down the cliff to sea level. Any bottles that end up on the beach are automatically smashed because the beach is all rock. A great place to get beach glass I bet!! I cannot get to sea level because there is no way in getting down there unless I have a 60 'rope ladder. When I was a kid there use to be a road to sea level but that has long eroded away. Due to the winter freeze up there is no sense in going back now. I will probably go back in the spring and poke around more, I can also walk miles along to top of the cliffs in hope of finding more cliffhanger dumps.
