Cobbles and clay right around 1900 layer in dump. Cap to 1800s section?

Does anybody know what it means in a dump when at a certain layer you hit feet of clay and cobbles? I want to see whats underneath but it seems to go deep. Thanks.

I guess it would depend on whether or not the rest of the soil in your area is like that. If not, you might well be onto something. With that said, I would still defer to more experienced diggers here on our forum.

if you can,prob thru it.if you don't feel trash,then you are at the bottom.

You'll run across layers of clay sometimes when digging privies. Like the previous post said, check some of the soil down at that layer by digging outside of the perimeter of the pit. Or simply do some probing to see if there's anything beneath the clay. It could be the bottom
