I went out for a wade in a local creek. It winds its way behind two old houses. I would guess the houses date 1800 - 1840ish. They are those large brick houses, two stories, long but not so wide. I waded this creek for 2 miles plus to even get to where the houses were. I did not have any luck finding anything in the creek. I did notice ATV trails ran the entire length of the creek though. On occasion I would venture into the woods bordering the creek. Sometimes due to curiosity, sometimes due to encountering a very deep hole. I did come upon what seemed to be a old house foundation. There was a what appeared to be a brick lined cistern ( filled in ) and a trash filled hole. I did not feel it was real old due to there being remnants of cement steps. I guess improvements could have been made later. So I poked around a little since I did not have any digging tools. The trash in the depression looked to be 60s era trash. I looked out a little further from that area and found this shard. It has a W M C embossed on the bottom and I am guessing is 1880ish thru early 1900 or so. I dragged it back since it was my only trophy for the day. Maybe some of you can give me a approximate date. Next time I go I will take a shovel and some heavier jeans. I had shorts on today and did not feel like doing battle with the thorns. Maybe I will take the much mentioned, never used, camera along. Have a good one people.
