Hi, I'm not a bottle collector, just a collector of old things. I have a soft drink bottle 8 1/8" tall and 2 1/4" in dia. It has a circle seam at the bottom connected to side seams that stop at the lip. No marks on bottom. Crown top. Color is amethyst/purple. From the sun?Slug mold stamped 'CRYSTAL BOTTLING WORKS VICKSBURG MISS. LEWIS JOHNSON PROP.' I've seen bottles from Crystal Bottling in Vicksburg before, but none marked with the 'LEWIS JOHNSON PROP.' on them. Anyone know anything about this variation? I'll try to post pics, the bottle has not been cleaned. Found at an old house place in Copiah County, Ms Thanks, RamblinMan

Looks to be from around 1900 + or -. Blown in a mold with a tooled lip. The color is from manganese added to the glass batch to be clear instead of aqua. The sun or artificial radiation turns it this color: SCA, sun colored amethyst. Looks pretty deep to be just from the sun but it could be. Nice embossing, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome and the info. I found this bottle at an old house place. The house has long since been gone. It was standing up straight on top of a brick on what was left of a chimney. Do you think exposure to the sun for a long period in that position caused the coloration? RamblinMan

Sure it could, that would make sense if it was soaking up the direct rays on top of a roof ever day all day [;)]

Thank you sir. Is there some one or some place with info about this variation and the bottles value? As I said, I've seen these bottles before, but never one with 'Lewis Johnson Prop.' on it. Regards, RamblinMan
