I did a lot of diggin' growing up in my hometown - now at 35, I'm getting back into it with new passion! About 3 weeks ago, I rode out to my Dad's house on Long Island's east end, welded up my first probe, and couldn't wait to try it - turns out I didn't need to go far. Behind the garage, not 10 feet from the spot where I welded the thing, I took a few plunges and located one of the dump pits on the property. The house dates to 1873, so I had high hopes, but this first pit dug out from the mid '20s to the mid '40s. Still had a lot of fun and turned up all kinds of neat junk. This was first dig for both my girlfriend, and my 12 year old son.(Even the dog helped!) Digs for this hole included: 2 nice local milks, a cool array of magnesias, a Dr. Fahrney's blood purifier, 5 black amber beers, an aqua Trommer's beer (which I gave to my dad's buddy, cuz that's his last name) a huge pile of post-pro pints, quarts and fifths, (complete with all the "next morning" bromos) sodas, crowntop slicks, food jars, colognes, cold creams, etc.. also a couple figural banks and some beautiful doll parts. my 12 year old son dug his first bottle - an F.A. Richter/New York (Loxol Pain Eradicator). Started a second hole yesterday which looks good so far - got a surprisingly intact 1/2 gallon mason, some vaseline glass shards, and a 3 1/4" Triloids Poison (my first ever dug poison) I know there's older stuff there somewhere! now where's the privy?......

One of the local milks - the other one was from his actual town, so naturally he staked the claim, and it stayed at the house!

Someone must have had quite a bout of constipation back in the '20s, cuz these magnesias were all dug together in the bottom corner of the pit. (behind the washtub)

This poison is perfect! common but still beautiful. I was carefully removing the soil around a 1/2 gallon mason, and it just sorta popped out at me. made my day!

And here's the figural banks - both damaged (at the coin slot of course) but they still display OK. at first glimpse, I thought the globe was a fire grenade...wishful thinking! all in all this was a great time, and lord knows there's more to dig on the property!
