well i find my bottle collecting hobby has now got me into diving for them and i have dove in 3 different locations around my area and all i can seem to find are soda/pop bottles between the 1940's to the 1970's . what i am wondering is where is everything else? 1980's and up bottles and the 1940's and down to the 1800's and beyond . over time do bottles sink into the bottom or something or go deeper toward the center into the channel (the deepest?) any help would be great . next question would be what do you do with 237 assorted soda bottles from the 40's to the 70's , sell them by the 24 pack cleaned?
thanks folks!

let's see a pic of some of your finds.
I think there's more bottles under the water than on land.

I am no diving expert, but glass bottles and sand have roughly the same specific gravity, so bottles will almost never sink down into a sandy bottom. A mucky, muddy, silt bottom may be different though. You need to do some research to find out where the old piers and docks where in the areas you are diving. The spots where docks and such were torn down 50 or 100 years ago will have bottles, unless someones already cleaned them out. Some of those 40s-70s bottles may have some value, especially local sodas, beers and milks. Good luck!

I have found that bottles in water like company so they will collect together in the lowest part of the river old and new together.
My best bottles have been probed in the mud on the bottom sometimes upto 18inches down.

Good luck

Underwater bottles tend to get buried no matter if it is sand, silt or mud. However currents, storms and anchors can dig up the older layers and bring them to the top.

hopefully this weekend ill be able to get out diving again and this time i plan on probing for bottles in the silt/mud . doe anybody have any idea how i can calculate the distance a bottle will sink in the mud/sand/silt over a given period of time like say 100years/50 years/25 years ? thanks again!

i do not dive, but as the digging on land gets scaers,i think thats the next big vencher. anyway,i dun a lot of studing on this subject and finding wer costil citys and towns dump ther garbage may get you a good hall. thar are numerus books on sanation at the turn of the 19th centery wich discribs in detail how fare the skous went.also maps by army core of enginers may also help.
