Found this in the old ghost town I am currently digging yesterday came out of an 1880s can anyone help determine what it is? Thanks....

there is a hole towards the bottom of it to drain liquid off something for butter maybe?

Can we see a pic of the drainage hole?

Depending on its placement, I would guess that it was a spittoon/ashtray, but could it have been something used for draining grease from foods to be recovered and reused later?

Sure is an oddball as far as it goes. Nice find whatever it is.

I think it's a soap dish. Size is everything with a piece like this, but if it's what I think it is it should be fairly small. I've dug a couple that had a rectangular shape a little larger than a bar of soap.
