Hello everyone. A new member asking for some help with a oddball bottle. From a local estate this bottle was said to have been dug up in San Francisco many years ago. Dark green glass about 9 1/2 inches tall. No mold lines noted on the bottle and no markings at all. What makes this odd is that there is about a 1/4" steel or iron hollow tube inserted into the side of the bottle at about a 20 degree upward angle about 1/2 way up the side. The outside portion of the tube is pretty much flush with the outside surface of the bottle but it projects about 1 1/2" into the bottle. It was done very neatly. A little chipping around the hole noted. Can't tell if its caulked as it rusted around the tube where it enters the bottle. My pictures are not very clear but I can try some more if necessary. Any ideas on why this was done would be greatly appreciated. Maybe for smoking?

Hello and welcome,I'd like an even closer look but from what I see and the fractures around it I'd guess it was just an incredibly lucky mishap strike with some metal object. Not intentional at manufacture anyway. That and the mineral water thing.
