There's a little collar that slides up the shaft with notches cut into it. The notches line up with grooves on the shaft. It allows the user to lock the anchor in the closed or open position so that it doesn't switch from one to the other. Very nicely designed. It weighs about 8 & 1/2 pounds. Here's a better shot of the closed position.

Here's the open position. Made to hold the boat in different conditions. Slight risk that this might really snag on something heavy and be un-retrievable (which is maybe what happened).

Funny that it says 5000 miles. It doesn't seem like much by today's standards. But the state of the roads was probably a lot worse. I have also learned that the founder of Kokomo tires 'invented' pneumatic rubber tires. Often they sold their tires out of pure white rubber. I believe the sign dates to the 1920s or 30s.

Hey Bob,

Brilliant color on that one, sir. A really nice piece of early motoring history. Kokomo Rubber was an early casualty of the Great Depression. I'd guess late Teens to no later than 1929.

Sweet info Surface. That looks to be a bike or motorcycle tire in the advertisement. I think they made both.

Thanks Sand!

Great finds Bob , super sign. Yeah, you probably could have sold it for a little more, but I know I love it when I can sell something to someone who has a personal connection to the item

Cool anchor too. I can imagine how much work it was to pull out all that rope! when I pull out something like that, it looks like the lake is erupting, with all the muck and silt that gets stirred up. I've got a couple of good dive spots mapped out on Google, and hope to get in the cold water on Friday.
Dive safe

Thanks Bram. Good luck out there diving. I think I've got one more tank in me before I hang up my gear for the year (unless we have a week of hot weather down the road).
