Etna bottle

Just a query - can anyone tell me a bit more about this little bottle and its usage ? -
Interested to know what that little "seal" type circle was for ?

Underneath it reads - Etna Chem Co NY USA :

It has a fairly rudimentary screw top and the base bulges, so that it doesn't stand too well !

It might have contained Phenalgin, a remedy for muscular pain associated with la grippe.. There's a nice SA advertisement about halfway down this page: South African Medical Record, 1914.

They are listed as manufacturing chemists in several directories, the earliest I saw was 1901.
