factory lip?

This small flask, 6" x 3", has a modification to the lip. Is this a factory made alteration or something a resourceful person did out of necessity? Any ideas? Seen one like it? Appreciate any input.

Reid, I have not seen the likes of you in a coons age!

Anyway, cool looking lip. I would guess it was made this way for a reason, but possibly it just got caught when they were applying the lip.

Anybody else have a thought??

Good to hear from you, Kyle, it's been awhile. My guess on the lip is that it was fixed, after the whiskey was gone, to serve another purpose. IMHO.

how do you think they fixed it?wouldnt they have to heat it to form it like that?........maybe just to make drinking it easier?[]

Surely would have to be heated by someone who knew what he was doing. Could have been done at the factory but how would the get a stopper to fit? []
