I finally have a new computer so I can post photos of my bottles. I have them in groups...first group is a purple bottle with glass stopper, Dr. Thatchers sample (small yellow), 2 codd bottles from Britain, Sietz Bros. & purple Monarch Water from Chatanoogga.

Wow! Do those purple bottles come out of the ground that color? ....or is that a sun thing?

When you have that much light behind the bottles, try the backlight feature on your cam.[:D]

That is a sun thing...a Florida sun thing! The one with the glass stopper came from Key West & the Tenn. water was put out in the sun in Florida. So they have been helped along.

that bottle didnt turn that purple from the sun, it was radiated. people take bottles that arent worth much and bring them to a medical lab, i know of several bottle dealers that do it and sell at big antique shows. cost 1000 dollars for 400 bottles, they put them in a radiation type machine (x ray) or something like that and they turn instantly, caused by magnesium in the glass

That is possible that they were "exrayed", all I know it what the dealer told me...that they were put out in the sun. I didn't pay much for them (less than $5.00), so if he paid $1000 to have them done (he only had 2), he didn't make any money. Regardless, I think they are pretty & look great in my display. Historical value is what is important to me more than anything & that is what I try to focus on, not value. They are still old & to have a glass stopper with the bottle was a plus for me.
